Weeelllll: Seems as though one of our classic comedians, Whoopi Goldberg, is an African princess.
Nah, just kidding, but she is a long-lost member of one of the world's poorest nations,Guinea-Bissau in West Africa.
Parliment learned that Whoopi had taken a DNA test showing her ancestors hail from there, and all hell broke loose, as they wrote her a long, detailed letter in hope that Whoopi would bring light to the plight of their country, much like Oprah, Angelina, Danny Glover and Bono have done for various African nations.
Apparently, for a special for the Public Broadcasting Service that aired last year, prominent black Americans agreed to take a DNA test. Oprah Winfrey discovered her roots in the rainforests of Liberia with the Kpelle tribe and Bishop T.D. Jakes, the Dallas megachurch pastor, found his in Nigeria's Ebo people. Goldberg learned that her genetic makeup is overwhelmingly Papel and Bayote, tribes indigenous to this country on Africa's western seaboard.
It's not hard to see how Goldberg's fame and her unexpected blood ties to Guinea-Bissau could seem like an unparalleled opportunity, but they might as well hang that *ish up as Whoopi's publicist ALREADY has gone on record saying she did not receive a letter and she ain't flying to no West African village no time soon. Sadly, her long-lost relatives need to let the vision go.
Can you imagine the Christmas list Whoopi is going to get this year? I know she gone be calling PBS like, "damn, damn, DAMN!"

Ebo is incorrect; it's actually 'Ibo' ('igbo,' if you want to be more accurate). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igbo_people
The whole article is insulting both. To that African country and to Ms. Goldberg. Guinea Bissau has an history, a culture and a past which seems not to be the case of the writer of this article. I'm not from Bissau but I was really annoyed byt the tone of the article.
Great post! Well written, funny and most of all - honest. Anyone who's either been to W. Africa or gotten one of those random "transfer funds to my account and you'll get $8M should think so...
Good for Whoopi for even wanting to find her roots, though. Who knew? ;)
